The Great Belfast Food Weekend

The Great Belfast Food Weekend

When it comes to the weekend Niall and I are always trying to find something new and interesting to do. And, surprise surprise it normally revolves around food and wine.

Seeing as we are both off wine for Lent (and ONE of us is sticking to it – so far anyway… !!) we were looking for something exciting to do this weekend that didn’t involve going to the pub.

After a bit of digging around we discovered that The Great Belfast Food Weekend takes place this weekend from Saturday 26th to Sunday 27th in St George’s Market.

Following the success of last year’s food weekend, this year is aimed at demonstrating all that is good about local food and producers.

Here at Chilli & Chocolate we’re really into supporting local producers (see our Local food Heroes section) so we are excited to see what Northern Ireland has to offer this weekend. This year’s event will focus heavily on fresh and sustainable local fish, locally produced beef and our world famous dulse which I love!!

The event will be hosted by two of our top chefs, Niall McKenna from James Street South restaurant and Nick Price from Nick’s warehouse along with local producers, sellers and other chefs. They will highlight the importance of retaining and building Northern Ireland’s food culture and history, as well as the need for people to support their local food industry.

The event will have a variety of events and demonstrations across the two days including, food workshops, tasting sessions, cookery demonstrations and you’ll get a chance to meet local artisan food producers.

It all sounds like a great day out, so if you haven’t anything planned why not come down to St George’s Market and celebrate ‘The Great Belfast Food Weekend’.

You can find more information about the event on The Belfast City Council website – including a recipe for Monkfish in Seaweed Butter.
