About Us

Posted: 22 October '08 by Niall

Chilli & Chocolate is a blog written by Kelly and Niall, a couple of dedicated “foodies” in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It’s a vehicle for sharing our passion for all things food-related: recipes, restaurant experiences, cookbook recommendations, wine reviews, ideas, and inspirations.

The blog was created in November of 2008 as a result of a sudden realisation – our lives revolved around food! What are we cooking for dinner, what restaurant can we next visit, can you recommend a good bottle of wine, do you know a good recipe for XYZ, and so on. It also allows us to record some of the better experiences of our lives for posterity – fantastic dishes tasted, sumptuous wines guzzled, and good local food producers encountered.

About Ciara

When Kelly & Niall first told me that they were setting up this website i was really excited for them.  I got even more excited for myself when they asked me to post recipes on the website.  As a wife and mummy and an almost full time worker, i find it a bit of a bore trying to decide what to eat everyday so i am constantly trying to find different recipes or come up with some myself.   As 1 of 8 girls in my family, we constantly share favourite family recipes and I’ll be delighted to pass them onto the readers of chilli and chocolate.  Originally from Belfast, but now living in Dublin, i have visitors every month and like to cook different meals each time friends or family are down or try a new restaurant.  Hopefully, through this website yous will find some of my recipes or restaurant recommendations useful. Whether you are looking for the quick and easy recipe for during the week or a more detailed and time consuming recipe for the weekend or for entertaining, hopefully i’ll be able to help you out!

But why Chilli & Chocolate?
Quite simply, chilli and chocolate covers the whole spectrum of the dining experience – from the canapes to the dessert course, from savoury to sweet!

Another reason is a purely personal one – the title brings back very fond memories of a truly superb slice of dark chocolate and cake, a thin line of fiery chilli between the moist layers, and a great merlot, savoured on a warm July evening at Circular Quay in Sydney..
